I love Singapore

I was surprised that Jet Li,李连杰 wanted to become a Singaporean and Joe said he probably like his daughters to grow up in a bilingual environment or that we have no capital gain tax is the reason why he wanted to be a Singaporean. Well! Some people do think Singapore is not so great and yet many have decided to put down roots in our little red dot.

Actually Singapore is really a good place to bring up kids. The environment is not too westernised and our TV programmes are mostly in Chinese Language so children can learn Chinese language better than in other countries like the USA, Australia. On the other hand, English is the working language in the school system and other aspects of our life. Children learn to master both these languages at a young age. As for the other races, all our ancestors were mostly immigrants so we have a common understanding and work hard in creating a harmonious environment. The National Education also helps in moulding our thoughts into a one Singapore environment. Another factor that is essential for the Singapore spirit is our HDB living environment. We have neighbours from all races and since young we integrate and interact. We celebrate each other's festivals and know about each other culture. We learn to tolerate and put up with the many things that come together when staying together.

I love Singapore also for the variety of food we have. We grow up eating food of all the races. We have satay, lotong, rojak, mee siam etc from Malay, chicken rice, loh mee, Hey( prawn) mee, chilli crab, carrot cakes, bak ku teh and many more from Chinese. Roti Prata, fish head curry, indian Rojak Singapore is really a melting pot whereby we can find all kinds of things. Not forgetting, we also have an understanding o one another using our special English - Singlish. The ah, oh, lei, kiasu, kaisi etc all have a place in our hearts. The ability to use proper language when required at work and converting to using Singlish with peers.

I love Singapore and really hope that those who come to join us will apprecaite what make us singaporeans and embrace the many things that Singapore can offer.
