This week children still in school as they have a wk 11. Today is meet the teacher session and will be meeting the kids teacher to discuss kids progress.
When I was a teacher, I always look forward to meeting the parents as I can enlist their help and have a deeper understanding of the family background and kids' difficulties. I find that meeting parents is such a valuable experience for me. Those parents who do not find time to come and see me, I really pity their kids.
When I was a school counsellor, I really felt really bad after talking to neglected kids. Mind you - some of these kids have all the material things in the world and their parents can be earning good income. Their parents are so blinded by their own pursuits of life that they do not take care of the emotional aspects of their kids. Many a times, I am most affected when meeting kids whose parents are either not on good terms or divorced. Can really see the struggle these kids have.
I love helping children as they are really receptive and really do give their trust to you. It is a good job to be able to reach out but the kids also affected me to ponder about my life. Kids with no Daddy and mum working and no time for them?
Will I go back to the job as school counsellor? Not when my own life is in chaos whereby my kids are screaming attention attention.....all the time la... :>
